Visual and Performing Arts
Every student has the opportunity to learn guitar, keyboard, or another instrument of their choosing, while performing modern and classic rock music in front of audiences. Students mature into their own “Rock Bands” which perform during school assemblies and eventually in major events like “Winter Fest” and our annual Spring concert at The Orange Peel. By 8th grade, FBRA students gain confidence and poise for public performance among other real-life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and “how-to-have-a-great time!”
Professional painters and ceramic artists from Asheville’s fine arts community serve as our art instructors. From drawing and painting with an emphasis on line, perspective, and composition, to throwing pots, making sculptures, and designing hand-drums, our students truly have an organic arts experience.
Video production classes allow our students to develop technology expertise that will make them more marketable in the 21st century screen-savvy economy where they will work. Elements of forming a cohesive narrative, staging, principal photography, and editing are woven into an experience that merges drama with technical aspects of filmmaking. From silent movies, to stop-action shorts, to the “Week-in-Review” highlight reels, our students are creating real art for real audiences.
