More about Chris: Chris joined the French Broad River Academy in 2025, bringing over seven years of diverse teaching and outdoor leadership experience to the classroom and the river. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science from The College of New Jersey and has a rich background in instruction—spanning middle school math, public school i-STEM, and wilderness expedition leadership. Chris just began pursuing his Master’s of Teaching in middle school STEM education at Western Carolina University. Guided by a deep belief in the power of experiential learning, Chris is passionate about helping students build self-confidence and develop a strong community-minded focus, empowering them to positively impact their own lives and the lives of those around them.

Before coming to FBRA, Chris served as the Whitewater Program Manager and a Lead Instructor for the North Carolina and Colorado Outward Bound Schools. His extensive background in outdoor logistics, risk management, and technical skill instruction includes guiding expeditions everywhere from the Florida Everglades to the canyons of Utah. Chris has called Asheville home since 2023. When he is not teaching algebra or leading students on cultural and field excursions in Costa Rica, you can almost certainly find him out on the river canoeing.ow problem solving in math can help folks become better community members.
