Summer 2025 At FBRA

While teachers and students enjoy a much-needed summer break, the work of FBRA continues during the “off” months of June, July, and August. From construction projects to summer camps to professional development, summer 2025 has provided a time for us to keep our community engaged and energized.

Summer Construction Projects

That beautiful slab at our South Campus is soon to become the new home of the FBRA Girls Program. Crews spent the summer doing the labor-intensive work of drilling down to the bedrock and installing 81 micropiles to firmly anchor the building’s foundation. Next, an overnight slab pour delivered a wonderful canvas for the rest of the building. Framing has begun this week!

At our North Campus, crews worked to rebuild a new and improved canoe ramp after our original ramp was swept away during the hurricane.

Salamander Adventure Camp

In June, we hosted a fun week of outdoor exploration for students from Woodfin Elementary. This is FBRA’s 7th year offering Salamander Adventure Camp, which is free to all participants thanks to generous funding from the Lucas Memorial Scholarship Fund.

FBRA Summer Programs

Every year, we offer robust summer programs for current and alumni FBRA students, and this summer has been no exception. Camps include solo canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, climbing, swimming, and music lessons. It’s such a fun way for both staff and students to take a particular element from our regular school-year programming and explore at a deeper level and perhaps in a location that takes a little bit longer to reach.

Teacher Training

Although students have three more weeks of vacation, all FBRA staff return to work on August 4 to prepare for the upcoming year. We take three full weeks to ensure that our staff are ready to lead outdoor adventures and teach impactful subject areas in the classroom. Outdoor trainings, safety courses, mapping out annual curricula, learning from local experts about the latest strategies for reaching neurodiverse populations, creating a cohesive staff unit that can work effectively as a team and family — this is just some of the work that happens during these crucial three weeks that set us up for success for the coming school year.

Students, we will see you at Induction on Monday, August 25!
