Whitewater Wave Coming in 2024

Woodfin Wave Next Door to FBRA

On May 20, 2024, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported that Woodfin’s whitewater wave likely to be completed in 2024 as the only whitewater wave in WNC. French Broad River Academy is uniquely positioned to access the feature, as it will be situated right between our North and South campuses. For FBRA, having moved to Woodfin in 2016 on a designated Brownfields site, it has been so exciting to be an integral part of the restoration and revitalization of the French Broad River in Woodfin. We can’t wait for generations of students to surf the wave!

This project is the culmination of a rich public-private partnership including Riverlink, the Town of Woodfin, the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority.

Greenway and Parks Coming Too

In addition to the whitewater wave, plans are underway for continuous parklands between FBRA’s North and South Campuses, including a greenway that will eventually link us to Asheville’s River Arts District. And FBRA has already committed to being the chief stewards of the adjacent park, volunteering to be the primary service partners responsibility for keeping the park clean.
