FBRA Service Around WNC

It’s been another active year of community service for French Broad River Academy students and staff. We are grateful to our many service partners around the region. They are doing such important work fighting for the environment, food insecurity, and social justice.

Marshall Native Gardens Service Partners

Recently in an article in the Citizen Times, FBRA students were recognized as one of the volunteer groups that helped bring about the construction of a chimney swift tower at the Marshall Native Gardens. We’ve been working with this organization for several years. It’s particularly rewarding for a group of students to get to contribute to the same project over a span of time and see the work coming together, right in front of their eyes.

Partnering With Carolina Climbers Coalition

FBRA has worked with Carolina Climbers Coalition (or CCC) for several years to assist with building and maintaining access to climbing sites in our region. Below, our students were recognized for a massive kudzu removal project at Hickory Creek Boulders. CCC said of us in a recent Facebook post:

“Hickory Creek Boulders kudzu control is working! Native species like these chocolate trilliums are popping up where the invasive kudzu vine once dominated. This kudzu control is a multi year project but our first year is looking effective thanks to YOU!”

This year we have also volunteered with MANNA FoodBank, Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, the Town of Woodfin Parks & Greenways Department, and the Dr. John Wilson Community Garden. We love giving back and reaching out!
