More about Brian: Brian hails from Reading, Pennsylvania, and his path as an educator was inspired in 2007 by a 28-day National Outdoor Leadership School backpacking course in Wyoming. Since then, he has developed a passion for combining traditional and outdoor education at organizations such as The Outdoor Academy, the Nantahala Outdoor Center and Mountain Trail Outdoor School, and with college outdoor programs at Appalachian State University and UNC Charlotte, where he managed the Adventure Trips Program. For three years prior to coming to FBRA, Brian taught English in Germany, where he worked with a wide range of students and had the opportunity to take multiple trips of a lifetime while exploring Europe. The common thread in Brian’s career has been facilitating students’ growth and helping them experience “aha moments” where they grasp a new idea, skill or insight. Brian is thrilled to join the French Broad River Academy community as a Math Teacher. He enjoys how math lends itself to practical applications and gives students the opportunity to discover tangible solutions to real-world problems.
In addition to his love for outdoor adventures, Brian enjoys playing the guitar, board games, and cheering on his Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Brian lives in Asheville with his wife Liz and their two eccentric cats, Peanut and Stella.
