Time Capsules, Traditions, and New Beginnings

by Liddell Shannon, Girls Program Science Teacher

On Friday, May 29, twenty high school seniors joined twelve teachers at FBRA’s new South Campus building to celebrate a cherished time capsule tradition that began in 2015, when the FBRA Girls’ Program was first established.

The tradition was created by then Program Director Jennifer Buell (Señora H), who wanted to provide a meaningful way for each graduating class to come together and celebrate their time at FBRA. Since then, every year on the last day of school, students have written letters to their future selves and added special keepsakes to their class time capsules.

As high school seniors, alumni return to campus to open those time capsules and reflect on the journeys they have taken since sealing them years before. This year’s gathering included a tour of the new South Campus, an opportunity for each graduate to share what comes next in their lives, and a spirited game of 6-square that brought back plenty of memories and laughter.

As students reflected on what their years at FBRA meant to them, several themes emerged: always carrying a water bottle, learning to be comfortable in the uncomfortable, developing conflict-resolution skills, and becoming strong self-advocates. These lessons, along with countless friendships and experiences, have helped shape the young adults they are today.

This beautiful tradition continues to strengthen the connection between FBRA and its graduates, reminding everyone that once a Salamander, always a Salamander.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 and all of our graduates. We are excited to see where your next adventures take you!
