More About MC: Mary Catherine “MC” Suydam grew up in Charlotte and moved to Asheville to study Environmental Studies and Ecology at the University of North Carolina Asheville. At UNCA her passion for Outdoor and Experiental Education blossomed as she began working as a whitewater kayaking and backpacking trip leader for her Outdoor Programs. MC has most recently worked for the North Carolina Outward Bound School as the Resident Whitewater Specialist and a Lead Instuctor. Her love of rivers goes beyond just paddling! If she’s not in a canoe, she is snorkeling local rivers to explore more about the ecosystems. MC has studied Spanish while trekking across Peru, attending language magnet schools, and throughout her college career. She believes that shared experiences through language and culture have profound impacts on development and community building. MC is excited to foster challenge and growth for her students both in the classroom and on the river!
