More About Zax: Growing up in Durham, Zax spent most of his free time at the skate park and practicing for dance battles. After arriving in Asheville to attend UNCA, he discovered his passions for climbing, whitewater kayaking, and outdoor leadership through his involvement in the university’s Outdoor Programs. After graduating, Zax turned his attention to his outdoor pursuits, becoming a competent multi-pitch trad climber and Southeast kayaker. He returned to UNCA as their Outdoor Programs Coordinator, where he taught outdoor leadership and supported student trip leaders for 4 years. In that time, he climbed El Capitan in Yosemite, kayaked the Grand Canyon, and earned his masters in Experiential and Outdoor Education. He has lived in Costa Rica and Spain, and is excited to share his language and outdoor skills with the 6th graders at the French Broad River Academy.
